Merry x-mas song

I am really sorry that I haven't been able to blog for a while. Has been buisy with exams etc.. But finally I'm back in my home'town' to enjoy the christmas time (which I love!), and there is never a christmas without Pink Floyds christmas song "Merry x-mas song" from 1975! This a song that is not to be found on any albums (exept "A tree full of secrets" -> several cd's with rare material). This is a song that's not taken serious by the band since it sounds like they are fooling around during the song. They are laughing and having fun on this unreleased song.

Something that is really special about this song is that Nick Mason is singing!! This is very rare, but you can find other songs where Nick is singing (One of these days,  corporal clegg, scream thy last scream etc).

The man on vocals: Nick Mason

Anyway, I want to wish you all a merry christmas! Hope the holiday will be filled with joy and happiness! Will of course put the video of the song! Enjoy, and merry christmas :)

Cymbaline

This is one of my favourite song on the album "More". Not a huge fan of that album, but I really fancy this song, and of course some of the others as well! Roger Waters is the writer behind this wonderful song, and it's sung by David Gilmour. The album was released in 1969.

"More" cover

In the lyrics, there is told the tale of a nightmare, so I will put out the lyrics so you can see for yourself if you agree!
Anyway, what I love about this song is the calmness of it. The sounds are low and the vocals are calm and careful. David Gilmour did a really great job singing this song! When I started to like Pink Floyd, I remembered that I already then choose all the other albums before this one, and it actually took me a couple of years before i started to REALLY listen to it, but still.. There were only a few songs that I liked, and I'm still not a huge fan. It's actually a bit sad. It's not that I don't like it, but it's far from my favourite. I will soon give it another chance!

David Guilmore singing "Cymbaline"

What Tommy Vance means about this song:
The song is a fine example of the quieter more reflective side of Pink Floyd with a memorable and uplifting chorus. Cymbaline is justifiably regarded as one of the four standout tracks on the album. With more time, care and attention this track could really have been developed into something special.

From a live gig

The path you tread is narrow
And the drop is sheer and very high
The ravens all are watching
From a vantage point nearby
Apprehension creeping
Like a tube-train up your spine
Will the tightrope reach the end
Will the final couplet rhyme

And it's high time, Cymbaline
It's high time, Cymbaline
Please wake me

A butterfly with broken wings
Is falling by your side
The ravens all are closing in
And there's nowhere you can hide
Your manager and agent
Are both busy on the phone
Selling coloured photographs
To magazines back home

And it's high time, Cymbaline
It's high time,
Cymbaline
Please wake me

The lines converging where you stand
They must have moved the picture plane
The leaves are heavy around your feet
You hear the thunder of the train
And suddenly it strikes you
That they're moving into range
Doctor Strange is always changing size

And it's high time, Cymbaline
It's high time, Cymbaline
Please wake me

And it's high time, Cymbaline
It's high time, Cymbaline
Please wake me

This is exactly what I'm thinking when I'm having nightmares.. PLEASE WAKE ME!!! Good night peeps. Sweet dreams!

One of these days

After a request from my sister, I'm gonna write about this song today. The song is from the album 'Medle' which is the bands 6th album. The album is amazing, and so is this song. This song is an instrumental piece and it's written by all four members. Well, I said it was an instrumental piece, but actually, there is one line in this song that says: "One of these days I'm going to cut you into little pieces". This is Nick Masons voice, and it's really not often we can hear his voice, so that's just fantastic!!

The song was named "One of these days" because everything was going wrong in the studio the day they recorded this piece, in AIR-studios january 1971. Love the way they are making the best out of a shitty day, cause' it turned out to be a masterpiece! Yes, I know I'm calling most of their songs for masterpieces, but so what! I'm not lying.

From "Live at Pompeii"

I just got myself "A tree full of secrets", and that is 10 cd's with all this really rare stuff! It also contains two demos of the song, and also the mono version. Pretty amazing!!
The band performed this song on the dvd "Live at Pompeii", and then they retitled the song to "One of these days I'm going to cut you into little pieces". The song is also on the "Pulse" dvd.

Pulse

The bass sounds are massive on this song, and as a 'bass-player' myself, the louder and clearer the bass sound is, the more I love the sonsg! The reason for the loud bass-sound is that there were used two bass guitars, one played by Roger Waters and the other played by David Gilmour. Not often David is 'slapping the bass', so that makes me love the song even more. It has all these rare things in it. Nick Mason on 'vocals' and David Gilmour on bass guitar.

The album
The music video is a bit special! I find it extremely psychedelic! Theres watches and boys dancing ballet.. Well, I would let ya'll make your own opinions, but I culdn't find the right video on youtube, so here's the version form "Live at Pompeii". Enjoy and have a faboulous evening!

Grantchester Meadows

I've always loved this song, but last week, there was a Pink Floyd non-stop show on the tv where they showed different music videos of all time. They also showed a music video of "Grantchester Meadows", and a version of the song I've never heard before! Or not exactly a 'new version' but the way David Gilmour sings the song, is just breathtaking! I've never before listen this much to this song. I found a new love for it. I absolutely love when that happens!

"Ummagumma" the cover

This song is to be found on the wonderful album "Ummagumma" and it's on the studio cd. It is written entirely by Roger Waters and is seen as a highlight of the studio side of the album. Waters is in this song trying to show the beauty spot south of Cambridge and a meditation on summer and the immensity of nature. The song contains sounds effects like the twittering of a skylark, the honk and splash of a swan landing on the River Cam. Tommy Vance wrote in his book 'Pink Floyd, on record.. etc': "The final sequence with the bumblebee being swatted with a newspaper in full stereo by Roger became a great favourite among stoned listeners everywhere". funny!
Nick Mason is actually not a part of this song. It's one of very few songs without drums.

I will put out the music video that made me love this song all over again and in a new way! Enjoy, and have a wonderful evening ya'll!

"Icy wind of night be gone this is not your domain"
In the sky a bird was heard to cry.
Misty morning whisperings and gentle stirring sounds
Belied the deathly silence that lay all around.

Hear the lark and harken to the barking of the dog fox
Gone to ground.
See the splashing of the kingfisher flashing to the water.
And a river of green is sliding unseen beneath the trees
Laughing as it passes through the endless summer
Making for the sea.

In the lazy water meadow I lay me down.
All around me golden sun flakes settle on the ground.
Basking in the sunshine of a bygone afternoon
Bringing sounds of yesterday into this city room.

Hear the lark harken to the barking of the dark fox
Gone to ground.
See the splashing of the kingfisher flashing to the water.
And a river of green is sliding unseen beneath the trees.

In the lazy water meadow I lay me down.
All around me golden sun flakes covering the ground.
Basking in the sunshine of a bygone afternoon
Bringing sounds of yesterday into this city room.

Hear the lark harken to the barking of the dark fox
Gone to ground.
See the splashing of the kingfisher flashing to the water.
And a river of green is sliding unseen beneath the trees,
Laughing as it passes through the endless summer making for the sea.

Set the controls for the heart of the sun

Well, let me start with the fact that I've heard this song live, three times! Roger Waters played the song during his Dark side of the moon tour. This is also the first song I learnt to play on the guitar (just the intro).
Allright, back to the real deal. This song is on the album "A saucerful of secrets", their second album, but it is also to be found on the live-part on the album "Ummagumma". The song is called Rogers first sucessful song! Roger Waters described the number as being 'about an unknown person who, while piloting flying saucer, is overcome by suicidal tendencies'.

Since it's their second album, Syd had just left, and David took his place. Some parts of the song, Syd already had some guitar play for, but not for the entire song. So it ended with David playing both Syd's and his own parts! It's the only song from the band with contribution from both Syd and David (five in the group). That's just amazing.!

Fantastic photo from the filming in Pompeii!

Here's the song! This film is from the dvd called "Live at Pompeii"

The lyrics

Little by little the night turns around.
Counting the leaves which tremble at dawn
Lotuses lean on each other in yearning
Under the eaves the swallow is resting

Set the controls for the heart of the sun.

Over the mountain watching the watcher.
Breaking the darkness, waking the grapevine.
One inch of love is one inch of shadow
Love is the shadow that ripens the wine.

Set the controls for the heart of the sun.
The heart of the sun, the heart of the sun.

Witness the man who raves at the wall
Making the shape of his questions to Heaven
Whether the sun will fall in the evening
Will he remember the lesson of giving?

Set the controls for the heart of the sun.
The heart of the sun, the heart of the sun.

Dogs

This is the second song to be found on the album "Animals", and today I am going to give a credit to all of those brilliant guitar players who change their own strings on the guitar (I reckon David G is one of them!). I did it today, for the second time in my life. The first time didn't work out at all, so I just quit. Today I was about to give up, since the strings wasn't right for my guitar. They had a different way of how the strings should be fasten at the bottom at the guitar. They were built for a more fancy guitar. BUT I didn't give up! I just cut of the part that I did't need. My fingers are sore, and some of them are bleeding, so I just have to give some credit to those who are able to do this!

Me and David Kilminsters guitar!

Now, back to the song! I thougt it was ok to mention something about guitars today, since the song "Dogs" contains beautiful guitar play and solos! The song is written by David Gilmour and Roger Waters. Roger Waters made the lyrics while David made the music. What a duo... The song were actually called "You got to be crazy", witch also is the first line in the song. The song ended up being called "Dogs". It had now been formalised under it's new title as a song depicting the barbaric behaviour humans are capable of. The songs features noises of a barking dog, witch make the title clear!

"Animals" cover

This is one of the really long songs! It lasts for just over 17 minutes. And in this song I think they use 'dogs' as a metaphor for people in the 'high-class'. And not in a positive way, but in a way of how they destroy themselves and others by being obsessed by their own life, career and ego. The song concludes with these "Dogs" working themselves to death until they are "found dead on the phone" having been dragged down by "the stone", a metaphor for "the weight they used to need to throw around".
The song is sung by David until the 'last' part of the song ("Who was born in a house full of pain").

I didn't actually 'fall' for this song until I saw the Dvd "In the flesh" with Roger Waters in 2001. In this dvd and this song, it's Jon Carin who is 'taking' Gilmours part, and he does it great! He has a fantastic voice! I've actually seen Jon Carin 8 times at Roger Waters shows!
Jon Carin is playing the acuostic guitar, and on the solo it's Snowy White and Doyle Bramhal II whos playing. I will absolutely recomand everyone to buy that dvd!
Jon Carin on vocal and acoustic guitar

Doyle Bramhal to the left and Snowy White to the right

From the dvd "In the flesh" (part 1 of the song)

(part 2 of the song)

Sleep well ya'll!
And enjoy this clip under ;)

Just had to put this one here as well! This is Roger losing it during a show. haha, poor Roger.. Didn't want people to scream!

A saucerful of secrets

What an exotic name!! And it sounds so mysterious! Did you know that "A saucerful of secrets" weren't the original title??? They originally called it "The massed gadgets of Hercules". I reckon it's fancy too, but I'm glad they choose the title they did.
As you might know, this is a instrumental piece, and it's also the title of Pink Floyds second studio album. The album is just as great as the song, and written by Roger, David, Nick and Rick.

The cover to "A saucerful of secrets"

The song contains four parts. The first one is called 'Something Else', the second part is 'Syncopated Pandemonium', the third part is 'Storm Signals' and the fourth and last part is 'Celestial Voices'. The piece suggest of human development: Birth, adulthood, death and re-birth. I will put out a video with this song from "Live at Pompeii", and when David Gilmour start to 'sing' at the end, it feels almost magical! If I ever get re-born (don't know what to believe), but if I do, I hope it feels as good as it does to listen to this song!

David, Rick, Nick and Roger

This is the absoulute best version of the song!! Oh my god, I almost get tears in my eyes everytime I listen to the last part (re-born-part). The song itself is powerful, and if you can't feel anything while listening to this song, well.. that's not good! I feel sadness, hapiness, confuseness and all the other feelings that ends with 'ness'.

Good night Floydians

How the life as a (crazy) Pink Floyd fan is

Everyone needs a hobby. A hobby you know you can spend hour after hour on. As you all may know, Pink Floys is my hobby. I don't know what my life would be like without the music of this band. I use the music almost everyday, no matter what mood I'm in. Even if I'm happy, sad, stressed, tired, hyper, I listen to Pink Floyd. The music helps me with feelings. If I'm sad, the music makes me smile. And when I'm happy, the music just makes me even happier!

My room is filled with Pink Floyd posters, flags, assecories etc. I need daily inputs of Pink Floyd. I know this sounds crazy, but everyone who has a hobby, probably feel the same, as long as the passion is strong enough!
Lucky me have a family and lots of friends who share my passion. The let me talk about what I love, as long as I don't take off whilst talking about it. It can be too much sometimes! But then again, I can't help myself! :)

My beautiful flag of the hammers! Bought at the Roger Waters gig in Berlin 2011

The things I love the most about Pink Floyd is that you always notice different things in some songs. Example: Atom heart mother, an instrumental masterpiece, there is so many different sounds and variation. At least the first 5 times you listen to it, you notice something new. And it's the same with lots of other songs.
Another fantastic thing is that the songs are built up in a way that no songs today is. Pink Floyd do have lots of songs that last for several minutes, some over 20 minutes. They also have some songs that last for less than a minute. Nothing is the same! And thats what I love. I wish I was born earlier, so I could experience the good music! I'm just glad my parents brought me up well!

My tattoo, and Bob Geldofs hand print! The Wall the movie is the best film that's ever made! Geldof played the role as Pink better than anyone else would do!

I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Corporal Clegg

This crazy fantastic song, has been one of my favourite for a long long time. I'm a fan of the crazyness, and this song is filled with sounds from a kazoo... HAHA! yes, I think it's great!
The song is written by the master himself, Roger Waters, and it's a wacky number full of sarcastic humor.

Waters father had been killed during WWII at Anzio (has probably written about that before!) and this event would influence Roger's later writing as he became more obsessed with the obscenity of systemised violence (Tommy Vance said this in the book "Pink Floyd on record, on stage and on film 1965-2005).. It is, as you see, somewhat of a sarcastic song about what's wrong with war, and as they sing in the song "Corporal Clegg had a woden leg. He won it in the war, in 1944", so they are trying to make a point that it's not a prize to have a woden leg.. Or something like that. I really do like to figure out the meaning of the lyrics!
The song is to be found at the album "A saucerful of secrets", so check it out!!

Oh how I wish that some Pink Floyd cover band would start to play this song live.. I would be in heaven!!

The fantastic four XxXx
Good night everybody

Steve O'Rourke

This wonderful man died 30th october, 2003 (I didn't have time to write about it yesterday, and I'm sorry about that!). Anyway, this man were the band manager, after Syd's exit, and all the years till his death. He did follow as a manager for the band, even after Roger left. Steve O'Rourke was the executive producer of the 1982 film "Pink Floyd The Wall".
Steve suffered a stroke and died in Florida.. In the age of 63.

In his funeral, David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason played "Fat old sun" and "The great gig in the sky" for the first time in over 15 years!! When the coffin was bearing towards his last place to rest, Dick Perry played the sax while walking behind. Dick Parry is the sax player who has played in many of the bands songs!
"On an Island", David Gilmours solo album, was dedicated to Steve O'Rourkes memory. Also, Nick Masons book "Inside out" was dedicated to his memory as well! It's amazing what influence he had on the band, making it into what it is.

Thank you Steve O'Rourke, for making the Pink Floyd brand what is it today! You will never be forgotten!
To honor his memory, I found this song perfect! The man loved car races, so he and Nick Mason had the same hobby! Gilmour were also in this race. A soundtrack album was not released, but the tracks are available on the A Tree Full of Secrets RoIO.

Have a cigar, sung by.......?

I know I have been writing about this song before, but I was listening to it all night long, since I could not fall asleep. So, fantastic song, yes we all know, BUT, do you know who is singing this song???
Don't think so. It might sound like David Gilmour, but it's not him.. So who could it be?

I remember the day I got to know who the lead singer in this song were! It was a time after the first Roger Waters tour, and after I listened to this song ALL THE TIME! Then I thought that this could not be anyone in the band who is singing. I couldn't recognize the voice at all! So I just got more and more frustrated.. Yes, I could have used the internet, but I wanted to try to find the owner of the voice on my own. And then I got tired of searching on my own, so then I started to look on the internet, and I found this one page who said it was David who was singing, and I felt so stupid.. :p Thought I had some control on the voices.. And then I forgot about it for about a year, and than, out of the blue, I got myself a Pink Floyd book, and there it was. black print on white paper. "The band had a guest vocal on "Have a cigar","... I KNEW IT!! He's name is Roy Harper, and he is a singer, of course. They were recording in Abby Road studio, Pink Floyd in studio 3 and Roy Harper in studio 2. Since David wouldn't sing this song (I'm still not sure why), Roy offered to sing this song. FANTASTIC!!!

Here's the man!! He actually hasn't got paid for his singing on the album... And he's not happy about it, since he means that the album OR song wouldn't been the same if he didn't help the band out!

"Have a cigar" is one of two songs that are not sung by anyone in the band!!! The other song is "The great gig in the sky". That's not even a mystery, since the vocals is sung by a woman... ;)

Poles Apart

What can I say... It is indeed an amazing song, with a lovely melody and fantastic lyrics. The song is of course from the album "The division bell", and is written by David Gilmour, his wife, Polly Samson and Nick Laird-Clowes, who is a friend of David and he has been a co-writer on some of the songs at this album.

I put the lyrics at the top today, so you can think about the lyrics before I tell you more ;)

Did you know...it was all going to go so wrong for you
And did you see it was all going to be so right for me
Why did we tell you then
You were always the golden boy then
And that you'd never lose that light in your eyes

Hey you...did you ever realize what you'd become
And did you see that it wasn't only me you were running from
Did you know all the time but it never bothered you anyway
Leading the blind while I stared out the steel in your eyes

The rain fell slow, down on all the roofs of uncertainty
I thought of you and the years and all the sadness fell away from me
And did you know...
I never thought that you'd lose the light in your eyes

As you might think, and it will be correct as well, the first verse is about Syd Barrett and the second verse is about Roger Waters. At least, that is what Polly says! And it makes sense for me.. When Syd did bad and had to leave the band, David got to replace him, and he did really good. I think that verse does make good sense indeed! And I think its wonderful that he has been hiding it in the text. When you're only listen to a song, you may sing a-long, but you might not think about the meaning. I can honestly say that it's only I few years ago since I figured it out!

Very well, over to verse two! You can see here that it's about Roger, and I'm saying that because, as you all know, Roger and David didn't get along at the end of Pink Floyd.. It's been almost a disaster since "The Wall" and you can see it in the lyrics.. Roger didn't know what he had become, and the band didn't like him anymore. Roger ran away from himself, I think, but I won't go to deep into that now.. BUT, at the gigs this year, I've never seen Roger happier with himself! The three first times I saw him, it was all right, but this year, he was glowing! It was wonderful to see <3

So, for all you fans out there, here's a video with this lovely songs! And just think about the lyrics ;)
There is nothing else to say than this is an absolutely fantastic song with powerful meaning.! Damn, this song can make me smile ;)
Goodnigth everybody

Brit Floyd

Well, after some long months, I'm finally going to a Pink Floyd cover gig! Haven't heard PF music live since I saw Roger Waters in Berlin this summer. So it's been a while.. This saturday, I went to a Brit Floyd gig with my friends and family! I've been to a lot of cover band gigs, but I've never seen these guys before, so I had no idea of what they would play. Before the gig we all went out to try some new pubs in Bergen, so at the last place we went to, we had such a good time, that we almost ran out late, but when the clock turned 20.00 and we had just sat down, the lights went out, and the band started to play. Right on time!!!

Anyways, the band started off with a kind of meddle of all the different intros of songs they were to play. I must say, when they started to play, I was so surprised so many times! They played many songs that I didn't expect! They played "High hopes", "Learning to fly" and "Lost for words", which my sister love! I was so happy for her :) Other songs they played that suprised me a bit were "Pigs, three different ones", "Shine on you crazy diamond" and "Us and them". The other songs I had an idea about that they would play like "Comfortably numb" etc, but they are still great songs ;)

One thing that's not good, has nothing to do with the band at all, but it has got to do with the place they performed the gig. Yes, the sound is good, the seats are comfy and it doesent matter if you get a really tall person in front of you, cause you will see the scene anyways.. But the audience.. JEEEEZ! It seems like everyone don't like the music, cause they don't make a sound, even if their favourite song is played.. I'm not saying that people should talk, but they should be able to show their happiness during or after a song, but NO! They are just sitting there, waiting for me to make some noice, and then yell at me.. not cool..
In earlier years I've been the same as I am today when I listen to my favourite music, I give people the expression that this is my passion, and what do they give back? Lots of yelling and hush'es... Silly people makes me NOT want to go to gigs anymore.... And that sucks...

People who performe music made by these guys, are my heroes! I wish I had my own tribiute band <3

But all in all, no regrets that I went to this gig, cause it was freaking awesome :)

Welcome to the machine

Welcome my son,
welcome, to the machine

This is a song from the album "Wish you were here" and it's written by Roger Waters! The song is kinda' creepy if you listen to it in the night-time. The song has this scary intro, which sounds like a big boat is sailing through the fog.. It's sounds a bit scary. That's my opinion, but than again, I don't like scary things! Exept this song ;)
As you all know, David is the one singing this song, and he is singing it with a special voice, I reckon. A bit more screaming voice. Lovin' it!!

I think the lyrics is about a machine ruled world, or something like that. If you listen to the lyrics, they say "What did you dream? It's all right, we told you what to dream". This was just an example, and there's more of them in the song. So I think that it's about the world being ruled by the same persons, or whatever. Seems like no one has the right of their own opinion. I actually red somewhere that the song, in fact, is about the music industry. Maybe they means that the music industry only wants money, and doesen't care if the band is good or not.. or something like that!
In the song there is some instrumental parts which contains some weird sounds of machine sounding things.

In the music video, there is a machine who is walking around, and than it's from a industrialized city or something. There is also a man who get his head cut of, and it decays slowly to a skull, before there's a lot of blood floating all over. The video is brilliant, but not the best to watch a late night... 'Not smart Maria'.. Anyways, the music video is made by Gerald Scarfe, the same who made the animation for "The Wall" movie. You can actually compare some of the things from these two 'videos'. Three minutes in this video, you can see some similarities from the "The Wall" animation. Brilliant man!
Great, or what? :)

Here's the lyrics for ya'll as well!

Welcome my son
Welcome to the machine
Where have you been?
It's alright we know where you've been

You've been in the pipeline
Filling in time
Provided with toys and scouting for boys
You brought a guitar to punish your ma

And you didn't like school
And you know you're nobody's fool
[ From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/p/pink-floyd-lyrics/welcome-to-the-machine-lyrics.html ]
So welcome to the machine

Welcome my son
Welcome to the machine
What did you dream?
It's alright we told you what to dream

You dreamed of a big star
He played a mean guitar
He always ate in the Steak Bar
He loved to drive in his Jaguar
So welcome to the machine

Good night everybody!

Pigs (three different ones)

Big man, pig man, ha ha, charade you are

This is the first line in the song. If you see the name of the song, and know some Pink Floyd albums, you probably figured out that this song is from the album "Animals".. It's quite logical.. Pig's are animals... But anyhow.
I got the idea to write about this song because my sister has begun to listen a lot to PF, and she's been telling me that she love this song. Smart girl ;)

I've actually red somewhere that Roger Waters (who wrote the song) compares "Pigs" whith people with power and wealth. Funny.. And in this song, Pink Floyd used this 'voice maker' to try to make pig sounds during the song. I don't know what you call the thing, but it's about in the middle of the song. You know what it is when you're listening to the song.
I really like songs who has a secret message, like this song. Who would have thought that it was about wealthy people with power?? Well, it's not that hard to figure out, but you might not think about it. I don't think so much about it. I'm just listening and enjoying <3

Big man, pig man, ha ha, charade you are
You well heeled big wheel, ha ha, charade you are
And when your hand is on your heart
You're nearly a good laugh
Almost a joker
With your head down in the pig bin
Saying "keep on digging"
Pig stain on your fat chin
What do you hope to find?
When you're down in the pig mine
You're nearly a laugh
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry.
Bus stop rat bag, ha ha, charade you are
You fucked up old hag, ha ha, charade you are
You radiate cold shafts of broken glass
You're nearly a good laugh
Almost worth a quick grin
You like the feel of steel
You're hot stuff with a hat pin
And good fun with a hand gun
You're nearly a laugh
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry.
Hey you Whitehouse, ha ha, charade you are
You house proud town mouse, ha ha, charade you are
You're trying to keep our feelings off the street
You're nearly a real treat
All tight lips and cold feet
And do you feel abused?
.....!.....!.....!.....!
You gotta stem the evil tide
And keep it all on the inside
Mary you're nearly a treat
Mary you're nearly a treat
But you're really a cry.

If you're not sure of who this 'Whitehouse' is, I can refer to Tommy Vance, and his book "Pink Floyd: on record, on stage and on film 1965-2005"

"Pigs (three different ones) is next up, the lyric of the vinyl side two opener rhymes 'house-proud town mouse with 'Whitehouse', the latter a clear referenceto moral guardian Mary Whitehouse. This bespectacled old lady was constantly in the media bemoaming the lack of moraliry on television and radio, and had already attrached the ire of Deep Purple's Ian Gillan whose 'Mary Long' combined her name with that of fellow moral crusader Lord Longford. While Gillan asked when she lost her vrginity, Waters bottles out and semi-obscures a 'fuck you'!"

Good night everybody :)

A pillow of winds

Another lovely songs from the fantastic album "Meddle". This album is full of great songs, which I havent listen to in a while. Today my boyfriend played this song from his phone, and we both fell asleep. It's such a cosy and warm song, and you picture yourself on a beach while listening to it. The song is not one of the most famous songs from Pink Floyd, and that's what I love about it! It's a hidden treasure.

Sometimes I wish there were a PF tribiute band who played all the hidden treasures from Pink Floyd, and not just all the most known songs, even though, as long as it's Pink Floyd music, I wont complaine ;)
The song is actually one of PF few love songs. Many people believe that many songs are love songs like "Wish you were here". Well, it's not!
The name of the song "A pillow of winds" came from a mah-jong game while Roger and Nick were on vacation with their wifes. Don't ask me how they came up whit the name after a game.

The cover to "Medle"

Here's the lyrics as well

The cloud of eiderdown draws around me
softening the sound
sleepy time when I lie with my love by my side
and she's breathing low, and the candle dies

When night comes down you lock the door
the book falls to the floor
as darkness falls and waves roll by
the seasons changed, the wind is warm

Now wakes the owl, now sleeps the swan
behold the dream, the dream is gone
green fields, a cold rain
is falling in a golden dawn

and deep beneath the ground the early morning sounds
and I go down
sleepy time when I lie with my love by my side
and she's breathing low and I rise like a bird
in the haze when the first rays touch the sky
and the night winds die

If you have any problems to fall asleep in the night, listen to this song, and it will help.

Good night everybody!

Summer 68'

This day, three years ago, I recieved some really sad news.. The lovely Richard Wright passed away. It was my dad who called me to let me know. My eyes filled up with tears and I felt so sad. It were such a loss for the entire world, and especially in the music world. This man brought so much to the world. So many songs.. One song that was stuck on my mind for weeks after his dead was "Summer 68'", from the album "Atom heart mother". I found this video on youtube and I'm sure I watched it at least once a day for weeks..
Well, I couldn't find the movie to put in here, but here's the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icPk3lmeVhQ

This song is off course written by Richard Wright, and the song's never been very popular.. Many Floyd fans never heard it before. But once you've heard it, you gonna lov it :)

Richard Wright were in the band from the beginning, but during the "The Wall" tour, or actually after, he was kicked out of the band. Roger felt he didn't do anything.. So Richard was not in the album "The final cut", but after Roger left, Richard came back, and joined Pink Floyd as long as they were touring and doing gigs. Later on he also played at Davids gigs. Most know is "Live in Gdansk". Here's a clip from a few weeks after Rick passed away, and David's lovely words to him <3

So you can all understand that this is a really sad day indeed, but I'll use it to celebrate what a great man he were!!! And I will always miss him, but luckily the music is still with us <3

This song is from one of his solo albums.. Love the song. Storm Thorgerson is off course the genius behind this picture.

Take up that stethescope and walk

Roger Waters birthday is today! This amazing man is now 68 years old, today actually. And he still looks good and he is still making the best music! The reason why I choose this title today, is  because this song was his first as a Floyd member. The song is from the album "The piper at the gates of dawn", which was mostly made by Syd Barrett. After this song, he's writing exploded, and he became a great lyricis. After Syd left the group, Roger became their new leader, and he's been the lead lyricis since, with off course good help from David Gilmour.
A very young Roger Waters

One thing that truly is amazing about this man, it that he's always been trying to use the crazyness that Syd used as a leader. I feel that Gilmour didn't.
Roger was the one who almost wrote the entire "The Wall" cd, exept a few songs made by him and David Gilmour and Bob Ezrin. After "The Wall", "The final cut" came, and this cd was the only one made without Richard Wright (Roger fired him during The Wall), and it was the last one from Pink Floyd with Roger. Roger was writing all the songs and felt that the rest of the band was useless, so he quit.
In the late 60s og early 70s

After Roger left the band, he started a solo career. He made a few albums, like "The pro's and con's of hitch hiking", "Amused to death" etc, and he also made a opera called "Cà Ira". Beside that, theres some singles, and I reckon that they're all good! The man is brilliant!
Probably from a gig wher PF played "Careful with that axe, Eugene" or something. Love the screaming!

As a Pink Floyd fan, my biggest dream was to get to experience one of the members in Pink Floyd live. In 2006 the dream came true! Roger Waters came to Oslo, and I had tickets!!!
The year after, he came back, but this time, he were playing in Bergen, so I went there as well. Off course!
The year after that again, Roger didn't come to Norway, so we had to go to Denmak. Not a problem for a Pink Floyd family! All these three years, he played the same gig, "Dark side of the moon". The gig was great, and I never found it booring, even though I'd seen it before. I never got tired of the music.
From the gig in 2006 or 2007

I studied a few months in Australia, and one day I was reading the news, and I couldn't hold my tears back when I saw what Roger was up to! He said that he would be touring with "The Wall"... I had to go.. It took a while before he anounced the dates in Norway, and I got tickets almost a year ahead. In row 2... CRAZY!
The months went by, and I was counting days, and suddenly I was in Oslo. <3
The gig were great, and the day I thought we were going home, my friend, David Kilminster (guitar player in The Wall), gave me 5 tickets for the show the next day! So we had to stay!!

From the "The Wall" gig

A few months later, I wanted more of the music, so I went to see one gig in Denmark and two in Germany.. So all in all, I've seen this wonderful man 8 times.. And I'm wishing for more gig's when I'm going to Australia <3

Happy birthday Roger Waters! ME ELSKA DEG!!
